BACCANALLE...WHO? WHAT?

So what does Baccanalle mean?  Baccanalle is a play on the word "Bacchanale" which means scandal or wild celebration in the Caribbean.  We hope that your Baccanalle experience will be a wild celebration for your tastebuds...we will leave the scandal to others!

Baccanalle is all about giving you delicious, unforgettable, flavourful food.  We specialize in contemporary and traditional Caribbean and Soul food with lifestyle options including vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, diabetic-sensitive, and low sodium options.

MEET THE CHEF

Resa Solomon-St. Lewis is the Chef-Owner-Founder of Baccanalle and the Owner of Capital Fare Café.  She completed Chef Training (with honours) at Algonquin College and also holds a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Ottawa. ​

Following her wins at the Embassy Chef Challenge, Chef Resa acted as consulting chef to the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Foundation developing a recipe book for families managing Crohn's and Colitis. She continues to develop gluten-free and gluten-sensitive dishes to support her clients who are looking for these options. 

 

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Resa's family originates from Trinidad & Tobago.  Her cooking style reflects her Canadian and Caribbean roots, multi-cultural upbringing and focus. She developed her passion for cooking early on and enjoys celebrating Caribbean cooking traditions and innovations with her family, friends and clients.

Chef Resa has twice represented the High Commission for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Ottawa's Embassy Chef Challenge, with laudable results on both occasions.

SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY

We are excited to actively support our beautiful Ottawa community!  Over the past few years, we've proudly supported local community groups, health-based charitable initiatives, Afro-Caribbean Youth & Cultural Associations, local not-for-profit groups, and more.  

For 2020 we are focussing our contributions on supporting vulnerable communities and Frontliners with meals. 

 

In April 2020 we became a restaurant partner with Ottawa's Meals for Hope and Baccanalle supported more than 100 meals in the first month of joining alone.  For more information or to donate please visit Meals for Hope.

As of May 2020 we are part of the network of Love Local Delivery restaurants participating in Feeding Our Community - supporting meals for frontline workers at Ottawa’s Carefor Health & Community Services and its vulnerable clients.  For more information on this initiative or to donate please connect here through the Ottawa Community Fund
